Day 4 on the Loop – East Port Marina, Peoria, IL

John and I reviewed our progress on the Loop so far and decided that we could take a day off from travel and explore a bit of Peoria as well as doing laundry and some shopping.

After breakfast at a nearby café we moved the boat from A dock to C dock since the power on the original dock we had been assigned was supposed to be 30 amp, but only turned out to be 20 amp.

The issue with the power is that there are two air conditioning systems on board, and if we had both running then the circuit on the "pedestal" on shore would blow.  I seem to have a knack for picking “interesting” marinas.  Starved Rock and EastPort both were in need some TLC.

When we fueled up yesterday the dock attendant said that the facilities were 25 years old, and in need of maintenance.  The fuel cost was 53.453 gallons @ $3.60/gallon for a cost of $192.38.

As we finished our move from A to C dock the skies opened up again and we decided there was no reason to rush out into a rainstorm.  We reviewed our plans for the next few days, did some boat chores, and waited till 11:15 to start out on our chores and activities for the day.

First stop was a laundromat, where they would do our bag of laundry for $0.95/pound.   Since it would cost us a couple of dollars in quarters to do it ourselves, plus the time spent waiting for the washer and drier, it seemed like a great deal to have someone else wash, dry, and fold our clothes.

From there it was on to the Peoria Riverfront Museum.  What a great place!   Tons of history about Peoria (which was a great whiskey distilling location before prohibition), as well as interesting exhibits about what it is like to live and work on the tugboats on the Illinois River.

Interesting history in Peoria.  The final reference to the ice business being discontinued in 1900 after the Chicago River was diverted into the Illinois may have something to do with the fact that the Chicago river was being used a sewage system!

The museum also had a fun Lego exhibit, where famous scenes were recreated in Lego.

I made a new friend in Peoria!
These must have been the first Loopers!:)
Love the Lego Pup!

After lunch at a fun Irish pub we went to the Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Visitors' Center, which was right next door to the museum we had just left.

Happiness is having fun with heavy equipment!

They let us into the cabs of several pieces of equipment
